always on VPN, providers that aren't blocked?

I'm thinking of running my phone with always-on VPN, but I've found that with Mullvad or Proton that too often the ip ranges are known as being a vpn and are banned or blocked by sites I want to use. Anyone know a solution to this? Is there a vpn service that somehow rotates through enough IP addresses or something that would get around this problem?

Any other ideas?

One option for this is to rent a VPS in a country with good privacy laws, and set up your own VPN server. Examples of this are Iceland and providers like 1984.is or other privacy respecting company. Do your own research on what provider suits your threat model. There is a lot of apps and tutorials for this. One easy route is an app called PiVPN based on docker and wireguard.

The drawback of this is that you will be the only one using this IP address so depending on the reason you use a VPN this option may or may not be suitable for you.

rellhom It's very easy to enumerate and then block every exit IP for mainstream VPN providers. You won't find one with what you want. The alternatives to mainstream providers are very shady and primarily exist for malicious use...

I know this will most likely not be well recieved yet i believe it deserves a mention none the less.
The solution to service providers blocking access from vpn originating traffic is to stop using those services, it is the only way we can reliably communicate to providers that this behaviour is unacceptable, there are no services for which a better privacy respecting alternative does not exist.
Any how i realise for many that is extreme and unrealistic, but as someone that has been living this way for years it is a viable and imo preferential option.

thanks, this might work for me but my main goal is trying to keep my social media profiles completely unconnected from each other, so using only one ip might let facebook and instagram figure out I am the same person on different accounts which I'm trying to avoid, I want my business separate from my personal life, I guess I could get more than one vps and separate them that way

this is interesting, what are the drawbacks? I can guess one problem might be that the residential IP you are routing through is a "man in the middle" that could be a risk of getting hacked?

You'll have much joy with VPNs that route through residential IPs. There are couple infamous ones (that do all kinds of shady stuff) I'd not use even if I absolutely have to.

ignoramous These are generally hijacking people's machines for something they didn't consent to doing... they're malware-based services.

ok thanks, I guess the only solution is to set up one's own vpn through vps, and maybe more than one

I use Private Internet Access VPN. I only log in to social media (with a linux VM on my laptop) when connected to the vpn and I've never been blocked in any way. I think we did a 3 year plan that was quite cheap.

@rellhom Anytime I feel like I'm getting blocked from a service due to my VPN IP, I just switch to a Swiss based exit node and it seems to fix it pretty reliably. Using both Proton and Mullvad btw.

Another option is to rely on CGNAT depending on your threat model/goal. There are far better and more reliable ways of tracking someone across services than IP address.
