ryrona F-Droid want to maximize device compatibility by not raising minimum SDK level for example.
Which is frankly a horrible choice, and outright irrelevant (if users are actually upgrading their phones), for anyone using GrapheneOS.
But that article is definitely exaggerating things.
A complaint that you can certainly take up with the relevant people (@akc3n)
They make a big case about F-Droid signing all packages themselves and how bad that is, just to in a single sentence later admit Google Play is also doing that just the same, unfairly making F-Droid seem less secure than Google Play and thus Aurora.
Except it is less secure than Google Play (at least) for the exact reasons that immediately follow the part you pointed out. Also weird that you're doing a similar thing you're complaining about, by starting with acknowledging that Fdroid doesn't have security as a focal point but then suddenly taking issue with "unfairly" making Fdroid seem less secure. Is it or is it not as secure as Google Play? You can't have both.
And F-Droid's basic checks against proprietary components and trackers often find things maliciously or unintentionally inserted by developers, which is a big reason I use and trust F-Droid.
A point which is addressed in the part that begins with "F-Droid requires that the source code of the app". If there is an issue with this, you can again take it up with the aforementioned relevant people.
Eg Organic Map developers got very upset F-Droid flagged their release after they added advertisements with a tracker in their app, and it took months before the developers decided to do an F-Droid release without those.
Mayhaps, a source could be provided here?
There are advantages and disadvantages with all app stores, even in the context of GrapheneOS.
Sure. Never said anything to suggest otherwise? Most of my apps are installed from Obtainium (including some that are downloaded from Fdroid), which some people could probably point out issues (either with Obtainium or the Fdroid apps).
There are no reasons to specifically avoid F-Droid, as there are not any alternative that is obviously better.
Except for the reasons listed in the link. Users (including yourself) can feel free to decide if they're significant enough to avoid Fdroid or not. But to say "no reasons" is just a lie.
At the end of the day, its just a recommendation (one from Graphene themselves, FYI) and not any kind of mandate. No one's having Fdroid banned from their phones. Use it if you want to.
