O'Rielly display bugs

I reported this display anomaly to O'Reilly but they say they "can't support non-standard versions of Android". See the attached screenshots from Samsung S7 (android 8) and Pixel 8 (grapheneos) where the top search menu overlaps the notification bar making it unusable, and the bottom menu is truncated.

I'm guessing that the app uses the OS (webview?) to render the screen and there's a faulty assumption being made that could be trivially fixed if they looked.

Can anyone suggest what might be causing this so I can feed it back to them, or if there is something I can do myself on grapheneos to ameliorate the issue?

jhnc If you have developer options enabled, try disabling that first. Maybe one of the settings there is causing this issue.

If not, O'Reilly might be confused. Their app might not work correctly with Android 15. I recall seeing other apps that have this same issue after the Android 15 update.

other8026 Thanks, that's very useful to know. If it is an generic Android 15 issue, then I can hope they will (eventually?) fix it as more people start complaining. (I don't have developer options enabled; I seem to recall I turned it off immediately after I installed grapheneos, without changing any settings except oem unlocking.)

Do you happen to remember any specific apps you encountered? If you notice any more, please update here. If any of them are open-source, then I could find out what caused the problem and how they resolved it.

In the meantime, it seems opening their website in a browser on my phone allows access to search so, although it is very tedious, that is a workaround for now.

I have found: https://developer.android.com/about/versions/15/behavior-changes-15#edge-to-edge which looks like exactly the bug I am seeing.

Enabling developer options and setting "Display cutout" = "Render apps below cutout area" is a crude workaround for the top search issue, although not the bottom navigation area.
