Trying to catch up on the changes with Android 15 due to some of the recently discussed bugs (network permissions). A few things I've encountered and wondering if it's just me...
- Google Services Framework is no longer listed in the Apps store. I see Play and Play Services, but not GSF. Did I miss some news here?
- Google Messages no longer works consistently without Play installed. I've been using Messages with GSF-only for over a year without issue, but since Android 15, the app immediately closes when invoked. Installing Play resolves the issue, and uninstalling Play causes it to crash out again.
- Video apps, such as VLC and Mpv were also crashing upon open, and social media apps/browsers refused to play gifs/vids as recently as yesterday. Force stopping and device restarting did not resolve, but today it seems to be working so maybe the most recent update addressed it.
- Google Phone lost all favorite contacts this week...lots of Google app updates over the past few days though, so maybe they're catching up on fixes to coincide with Android 15.
- Network permissions...yeah, that one sucked. Was not expecting all of those Google apps to be calling home.
- Still having weird keyboard issues since a month or two back, where Gboard is not properly working when first activated in some input fields...mostly in Lemmy. I see there's a bug ticket for this one already.
- Lawnchair v2 is crashing more often and this old version might finally be at the end of it's rope. Swipe actions, like calling a favorite contact results in a crash.
Despite all of the above, I just want to say thanks to the devs and many volunteers for all their hard work. I know it can seem a thankless job sometimes, but your efforts are truly appreciated.
