Hey everyone,
I wanted to set up Private Space with Google Play Services but keep the owner profile outside the Private Space free of Google.
This setup was causing me to have issues with Signal push notifications (messages wouldn't come through until I opened the app). Weirdly, Signal notified me that it needed GPS to function properly, even though I had no GPS installed outside the PS. I downloaded the Signal APK directly, not from Google Play Store. Note that I did all the Signal troubleshooting and couldn't get it to work.
Here's the weird part: my assumption was that installing GPS in the PS would have no effect on the owner profile, BUT I discovered that when I installed GPS in the PS, GmsCompatConfig appeared in the owner profile outside that space. (No other Google services appeared.) And when I tried to "disable" or "uninstall updates" for GmsCompatConfig in the owner profile outside PS, it uninstalled inside the PS. My guess is that it was this GmsCompatConfig that was messing somehow with Signal notifications.
So, my questions.
1) Is it expected behavior that Google Play Services inside the PS would be installing or running GmsCompatConfig outside of it? Or have I messed something up somehow?
2) If #1 is supposed to happen, is this setup (GmsCompatConfig but without Google Play Store and Google Play Services) to blame for Signal's notification problems?
3) Maybe I'm doing something wrong entirely -- do any of you have Signal working with no GPS and outside a PS that does have GPS?
