Duckduckgo as default

I did read that Duckduckgo was default in GrapheneOS and wondered what the Reasons are for that? I just want to learn, what they do better, than other Search Engines.

The reason is a quite obvious one. Vanadium is a Chromium-based web browser. DuckDuckGo is included on the default search engine list for many web browsers including Chromium.

ErnestThornhill I know that, but I was wondering if it was by intention as the default Engine selected or in general added. I would love to know what GrapheneOS themselves would recommend?

[deleted] GrapheneOS doesn't recommend any particular search engine to my knowledge, DuckDuckGo is chosen by default because it doesn't use IP addresses and user data for targeted advertising, DuckDuckGo isn't really a search engine but a meta-engine that uses Microsoft Bing data behind a proxy.

Make comparisons and see what's right for you, you can also using more than one, in my experience, a flawless search engine is not available.

rellhom Not according to their privacy policies, of course a privacy policy is not 100% proof but I don't know why they would lie and what good it would do them, there is always a trust that falls to you when you use online services.

DuckDuckGo has many different sources, including its own crawler, DuckDuckBot. Bing still being the main index, I believe.
