I am likely just ignorant on the topic, but what can we expect for new features on android 15.

Klingerman01 I am hyped over the new Private Spaces feature, where you can essentially run two separate profiles within a single shared home screen. It will simplify using multiple profiles a lot, I would no longer have to switch between the two profiles I use the most. But they will still be entirely isolated from each other, except for clipboard sharing.

ryrona That is nice. Was that the main improvement? I also read that android 16 is apparently already being worked on by google. Not sure of the validity of that though.

ryrona Did you hear it's just 2 userspaces? You can already do that with any Work Profile management app, like Shelter. I thought the point of Private Spaces would be more than 2...

I think so. At least of the improvements that are part of AOSP 15 without needing Google Play services.

Likely. AOSP 15 has already been released a few weeks ago, so the team developing AOSP are probably working on the next release now.

hemlockiv Did you hear it's just 2 userspaces?

Yes, it is only two user profiles that can share home screen, and one of them have to be the owner profile.

hemlockiv You can already do that with any Work Profile management app, like Shelter.

Likely, I never tried that. The difference here is that you do not need to install an app that is given deep privileges over your phone. I don't know if Shelter is vetted as trustworthy or secure, it is a third-party application you have to install yourself. But Private Spaces is a natural and secure part of the system, just like separate user profiles.

hemlockiv I thought the point of Private Spaces would be more than 2...

I heard GrapheneOS developers are already considering to extend it to more than 2, but it is not a top priority right now.

That would be great, do you remember where you heard tha? Because I did make a post on that topic here in the discussion forum, but I don't think any of the main Deva have looked at it

hemlockiv That would be great, do you remember where you heard tha?

No sorry. Either it was here on the forum, or in the chat rooms, or in a github comment.

thequint In Android 14, the OS now pauses instead of turning off the work profile when the user taps the “pause work apps” button.

GrapheneOS reverted this change that came with Android 14 so work profiles are properly stopped.

restore Android 13 work profile pause behavior by stopping the profile from running instead of only suspending apps

Carlos-Anso And so can Private Space apps also be "stopped"? I haven't used A15 so I don't know for sure, but given that it seems to be touted more as a "keep these apps secret" rather than "keep these apps untrusted" I wouldn't put it past Android to omit the ability

Is there any timeline on the planned App IPC Scopes feature? It would make both the private space and work profile superfluous for me.
