Greetings! Apologies in advance if there is a better resource that addresses the following questions, but I have reviewed several resources including the FAQ and I am still a bit lost.
I purchased a Google Pixel phone for Xmas last year, but only recently discovered GrapheneOS. While this looks like a great way to protect myself from threats to my privacy from some places, I am also trying to find the best way to protect myself from location tracking related to cellular networks.
I know that there is no way to completely hide from cell networks; my idea is to use a PAYG anonymous sim plan which is available in my country, buy data using the sim card, and simply connect to a VOIP service for phone/text. The network would be able to locate my device, but not connect my device with my real world identity.
However, I believe (because I ordered my phone directly from Google) that Google has matched my identity and phone number to the phone's device ID.
I am not worried about Google or the public knowing my phone number or matching it to my identity. However, I do want to ensure that if I connect to either A) a PAYG cellular network and B) Google Voice, that the device ID will not somehow expose my location. That is: I am OK with Google/cell carrier/whoever knowing that my VOIP phone number is connected to my identity, but not my location when using the device.
Because my ID has already been linked to my device ID by Google, is this impossible / do I need to buy a new phone? Is there a way GrapheneOS can "hide" the device ID from Google Voice? From the network carrier? Again, my primary concern in both cases is my cell site location being linked to my realword ID.
