How to change color backgrounds of contacts

Hi everyone,

I am new to GrapheneOS. I am adding many contacts to the GOS contacts (default system) app. Every time I add a contact, a random background color is added to the contact. I am looking for a way to change/edit the background color for each of my contacts, but I can't seem to find a way to do that. I clicked on the pencil (edit) icon and couldn't find anything.

Does anyone know how to do this?

You could try "Simple Contact", part of the "Simple" range of apps, that get gets good reviews, and is available from Play store and other

If you're referring to this app, then please do not recommend that app, or any of the "Simple" apps. Those apps are owned by an adware company and are no longer good to use. Instead users should use the fork of the app, Fossify Contact (GPlay / Github), from the Fossify app suite.

Dumdum the term "no longer" makes the difference. At the time I was using it, it was praised for its independence and openness.
At the time of posting, no other suggestions had been made. I suppose net access could be blocked, or go with suggestions that are now being submitted.

I downloaded the Fossify contacts app and it is the same issue. Each time I add a new contact to the app, a random color background is assigned to each contact and there isn't an option in the pencil (edit) icon to change the color.

If all the colors were on the darker side, I wouldn't mind as much. But the lighter colors like pink, red, orange, are hard to look at, and those colors I want to change to a darker color like blue, cyan, green, so it is easier to look at and easier on my eyes.

As a workaround you can download a custom (or single colour) picture to suit your needs that you can assign to each contact individually. This obviously will be too cumbersome if your contact list is very long but it works.

Yea, I guess that will work but I have over 200 contacts, so yes it will be too cumbersome.

If any of the GOS Devs are reading this, can you please consider adding a way to change the background color for a contact in the contacts app? It shouldn't be too difficult to do. Thanks!

With all due respect, they have more than enough on their plate (all of which I imagine are a much higher priority then this) especially with Android 15 right around the corner.

Yes, I fully understand that they have a lot on their plate and I definitely respect that. I did not mean nor did I expect them to drop everything they are doing right now and work on this. I meant for them to consider looking at it whenever they get a chance to (in the next few weeks or few months or so).

Based on my sense of history, I am rather confident that "next few weeks" will not happen, and fairly confident that "few months" will also not happen. I expect much of "few months" will be spent on the Android 15 work ErnestThornhill mentioned.
