Graphene OS stock camera app - issues with focussing

I have tested the stock camera app now and I notice that it is often having issues focussing, leaving the screen blurry. There's also an issue where the app keeps switching between the two camera lenses.

I have tried to set focus timeout to never and tap the screen but doesn't fix it

The lenses is clean yes but I do use a double sided case for my phone. It seems to occure randomly and quite frequently, both when taking a photo of something close by and far away. My temporary solution is to use open camera with manual focus. That seems to fix it. Maybe that's a feature graphene is could implement?

I'm not quite sure: does the autofocus error also occur in Open Camera, meaning that you have to focus manually there? If so this could be an indication of a hardware issue rather than a bug in the GrapheneOS camera.

As it's not entirely clear from the information given: Does this only happen with the GrapheneOS camera, or have you compared the results with other apps?

Also the quality is pure crap for the front camera with an incredible amount of noise if you zoom.

If you experience noise in poor lighting conditions, you can also try using Night Mode, which also works with the front camera. In this mode, the camera takes several photos with different exposure values and then merges them. This significantly reduces image noise also using selfie camera.

Disadvantage: The recording time is slightly longer and you should hold the device steady while taking a picture.

I have the same problem from time to time, also on a Pixel 8. Tapping anywhere won't make it focus. Restarting the camera app fixes it.

This problem only appeared quite recently so it could be a bug in a newer version of the app, but I don't know how to reproduce the problem or when exactly it occurred for the first time.

Viewpoint0232 I am facing a similar problem. Camera becomes blurry when zooming in about >15x since about a month ago. Before that I could zoom into the maximum 30x and take pictures of the moon through a double pane window at an angle, with window reflection, and the camera would have clear focus.

I have since installed Google Camera for times when I need quality and features and don't care much about EXIF metadata.

Same issue here, is going on for months, never bothered to search in the GOS forum, but it is really really really annoying. On the brink of annoyance that I want to change my phone (from P8 to P9 or P10?) if that helps.

Any news about that issue?

EDIT: removed the plastic lens protection foil and it seemed that has done the trick.

Pixel 9a, no focus on front camera version 86. I click and doesn't focus anything maintaining a random focus on nothing.
