Has anyone use the ArcGIS Field Maps app on Android? (This is the listing on the Play Store.)
For context, I installed the app on a secondary user profile with no Google Play Services sandbox for one day while doing temporary contract work (let's call it that). The app would constantly crash (though my colleague also confirmed their experience that the Field Maps app would constantly crash with the out-of-the-box Samsung Android skin - though I can't which Samsung Galaxy S20 series or newer device).
At the end of the day (about 6 hours after first installing the app), the app continuously crashed within 5 minutes and there were error messages reporting that the Field Notes app was constantly being flagged by hardened_malloc
. However, I didn't save any logs from the app and we were done with the day's work; so I didn't manage to save any app logs or system logs. Although observations indicating that app crashes were quite frequent on even non-GrapheneOS versions of Android, I don't think it's not a great situation overall if the ArcGIS Field Notes app is also tripping hardened_malloc
alerts.
In hindsight, sandboxed Google Play Services probably should've been done if I were to use this app long-term. Fortunately, I only had to use it for a day. Additionally, I deleted that secondary profile with the ArcGIS Field Notes app after I was asked to log out of the host organization's ArcGIS account, as I never had intended to keep this secondary profile anyways.
What are your thoughts on this situation? (Again, I probably should've saved the app's and system logs right before deleting this secondary profile to at least have some evidence to examine -- I'll definitely do this in the future.)
