Keyboard Issues After Recent Update

Phone updated and now on random websites when I want to type something, Gboard doesn't come up automatically. Strangely, it's a keyboard with numbers at the top, no spell check, and not automatically starting with a capitalized letter. I have to switch to Gboard manually.

Doesn't do this in every site, but it's like 50/50.

Nobody else is experiencing this?

When I clicked in the reply box to comment, the key board that came up was not Gboard even though it's set to the default. Not only that, it also doesn't have autocorrect showing or even start the sentence with a capital letter.

I go to click on keyboards, Gboard is already selected, but I select it again, and then Gboard finally shows up.

Why is it doing that?

I think I resolved it by uninstalling Gboard and reinstalling it. Let's see if it sticks.

Now. Didn't stick. Even turned off Gboard and installed FUTO. Same deal. It's becoming very annoying.

grapheine this is only on websites? If so, maybe there's some weird bug that's causing it. If I had the same issue, I'd first try clearing the browser's (assuming Vanadium) storage in settings > apps > all apps > vanadium > storage & cache

If it's happening to multiple keyboards, then I'd assume the issue is not caused by the keyboard.

Lastly, no, I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue.

So, i just tested. It's not just websites, it's apps too. It doesn't happen every time. I also just disabled Gboard and it did it right now when I wanted to post a reply.

This is very strange. Have you granted any apps the ability to act as an accessibility service?

Have you altered any dev options or done anything using adb? Have you done anything else unusual like rooting the device?

I am having all kinds of issues with keyboards as well after a recent update to Graphene. It happens with every keyboard. The backspace key doesn't work and the prediction bar won't show up in certain apps without having to switch between keyboards several times. It has almost completely broken my ability to type with my phone now. If this doesn't get fixed I'm gonna have to ditch this OS

CreepyJoe Nobody else is experiencing this, and if it can't be reproduced, then without more information, it can't be confirmed that an issue exists or what might be wrong.

I think that a more productive thing other than saying you'll "ditch the OS" would be to provide more details such as which keyboards you've tried, which model you're using, which exact release you're using, and potentially provide logs so that this can be looked into.

matchboxbananasynergy Heya, matchbox, unfortunately I'm also experiencing this (lower case sentences, no spellcheck, etc.) and dropped in tonight to see if I was alone.

I have three keyboards installed; the default, Gboard, and KeepassDX's magikeyboard. I always keep the default disabled and magikeyboard lacks the usual qwerty keys.

Upon encountering these input issues after the last two updates, I noticed the default keyboard is re-enabled in Settings. Despite this, when I access the input method menu (keyboard icon at lower right of keyboard), Gboard is still showing as the current keyboard in use. Manually selecting it again resolves the issue temporarily.

Gboard itself was also updated at least once last month, so it may very well be coincidental to the GOS updates.

matchboxbananasynergy I am experiencing the same issue, though it only seems to happen on Vanadium.

I'll have multilanguage support enabled, then open a Vanadium webapp, and the first time I open Gboard to type anything (I use a webapp for Signal Community Forums), it'll show up as single language, no swype typing is possible and capitalization doesn't happen on the first letter.

I manage to get it back to multilingual and how it functions normally by long pressing the language select then swiping back, at which point it returns to normal behavior.

It is reproducible consistently if you have Signal Community set as a Vanadium webapp on your homescreen, you open it, then you try to reply to a post.

I'm also having issues with the keyboard in Vanadium from a recent update where the keyboard remains open (GBoard) after unfocusing from the input boxes, and I need to swipe to background Vanadium and bring it back to close the keyboard. But it does seem to be a distinct issue from others here, as I have no issues bringing the keyboard up from other apps or Vanadium.

mythodical Just replying to my own post to say this might be a Firefox bug. For example, when using Firefox to start a new thread here, the post title does not capitalize the first letter, however it does when Vanadium is used.

I can't recall if I've seen this behaviour in other apps since the issue cropped up, but I'll definitely pay more attention now.

The only way I can explain this is that in certain apps the keyboard does not fully load when pressing in an area to type text. Notion is one such app, but there are several others. I use SwiftKey but this happens with the default keyboars as well. I have to close the keyboard, and re open it sometimes several times until the prediction row appears and the menu bar appear at the top (SwiftKey). When the prediction bar and menu appear above the keyboard then it works, but sometimes I have to close and reload the keyboaes 5 or 6 times before it fully loads. And the fact this happens in many apps, not just Notion tells me it is a graphene issue, and I feel like a full redo on my phone from a clean Os install will result in the same bug coming back and I'm not ready to go there yet. There are other apps where the bug never happens. So far that's all I can give in terms of troubleshooting info.

I'm experiencing this as well but only with the Voyager app installed from the play store. It's highly annoying and I've tried everything logical to remedy it with zero luck.

I've solved a simillar issue with resetting the developer options to standard.

I am still having the issue in several applications, and Notion is where it happens the most. When it happens I can either open and close the keyboard multiple times until the prediction row appears and then it works properly, or I also found that switching to another open application and back to the app I am trying to use the keyboard with also works. I assume that's the equivalent of closing and reopening the keyboard.

Glad to see I'm not the only one.

When I clicked to reply to this thread, the keyboard that came up had a number row up top, wasn't Gboard, and wasn't capitalizing the first letter. I switched to Gboard, even though it was already selected, and then the appropriate Gboard keyboard came up.

I am having this issue. Keyboard comes up with no number row and no predictions and also deleting characters/words does not work as normal. I then have to open and close the keyboard sometimes multiple times to get full keyboard back.
