Having serious issues with mic/voice

Hi, I've had the Graphene OS for over a year now and for whatever reason, I have never needed to use voice until recently and I can't see to get anything to work! Prob the most important is an app called DuoLingo. The microphone exercises NEVER come up BECAUSE in my settings when I click SPEAK, it says I need to turn on Speaking Exercises but when I go to that section, it's not even enabled at all. I believe this is due to the interaction with Graphene OS and the mic. Why? Because the next app I use, VoNo Pro (used for taking voice memos and translating them to written text) used to work perfectly, then either Graphene or Pixel made a security update and VoNo wouldn't work at all till I bugged the dev then it started working again but it won't spellcheck/auto correct as it used to, despite me enabling this in settings. I emailed the dev once more and he did some digging and said VoNo needs access to Google services. The next app is OSMand, which has NEVER been able to use the speakers... ever. Loading it up says, "Cannot start text-to-speech engine". I believe these are all related. How do I fix this with Graphene OS? Thank you for any replies ahead of time! Oh yeah, and voice to text has NEVER worked when texting, no matter which keyboard I use!

taemex I think a while back there was an issue with the Duolingo web app that required manually turning on JIT.

I have OsmAnd on my phone and it speaks, but I had to install a text-to-speech engine and futz with it. In particular, if the Settings function that tests the TTS engine doesn't speak then OsmAnd can't speak.

I think using the forum's search function to look up Duolingo and OsmAnd might turn up detailed instructions.

Overall, text-to-speech is one quest and speech-to-text is a separate one.

That worked! I followed a thread re DuoLingo and go the mic working! But VoNo still won't work 😓. I'll search OsmAnd to see how to get speaker worming.

For voice recognition in DuoLingo, you'll need Google Speech Services installed.

For turn by turn voice guidance in OsmAnd, you'll need a TTS (text to speech) service installed.

GrapheneOS does not come with such functionality pre installed, but you can get them by installing other apps which provide that functionality.
