Forgit PIN Code but have fingerprint

Hello Everyone,

After registering a new password late at night and registering 2 fingerprints on my pixel 8a with GrapheneOS installed, I woke up and my pixel was rebooted.

I am trying hard to find my pin code by trying to find the logic I had used (usual PIN combination) but for the moment without effect.

Knowing that I had registered my fingerprints, is it possible to use the fingerprint in some way instead of the pin code after a reboot?

AlphaElwedritsch without a PIN you have no chance. the file system remains encrypted.

That is indeed the heart of the matter. The storage encryption keys are guarded by the PIN/passphrase, not by fingerprints.

The pin/password is required after reboot. I wish there was more I could do to help

If you had just installed the OS, then a factory reset from fastboot mode is best.

Feel free to ask I'd you require assistance in accessing fastboot

I have no data on the phone excepted one picture's directory (one week holidays) that i wiil try to backup.

If i really can't retrieve access i will make a factory reset.

i still hope to find again my pincode or to find a way / a tool to use fingerprint......

without a PIN you have no chance. the file system remains encrypted.
that is exactly the purpose.
it would be bad, or completely useless, if this were not the case.
so you have to remember the PIN or a factory reset is essential

A note for any future readers, to avoid confusion:

A factory reset is only necessary if the PIN for the owner profile has been forgotten. Which is the case for the OP in this thread.
If the PIN for a secondary user profile is forgotten, the user profile can be deleted, and no factory reset is necessary.

Bullion "Factory reset", despite the name, does not reset the device to how it left the factory. What it does is reset the user data partition. It can be invoked via Recovery whether or not the bootloader is locked.

Yeah I didn't realise when the no command comes up you had to press power button etc.. So thought you couldn't rest the phone as I messed the password up and had a phone there that I couldn't use but now I can do. So i have 2 phones as I went out and bought another phone :( costly mistake

I have a mate who's interested in the phone with this OS on it which is handy. So I'll recoup some sort of money thankfully silly mistake
