Wallet app for ID card

I'm in university and for access control for labs and other buildings, we use our campus ID cards with NFC chips. For some reason I found out that access control has disabled the use of the physical ID cards in favor of people using their phones with the cards in Apple Wallet / Google Pay. After talking with them they do not seem to comprehend that this "solution" does not work for everyone and doesn't offer any security benefit. As such is there any way to get Google Wallet to work for an ID card or is there a third party app that would work for this purpose?

Maybe ask what accommodation they would provide for somebody without a smartphone? What if a blind person uses a flip phone? It is possible that the physical-card system still works and they could enable it for specific people including you.

de0u I talked with them and they have only given me a 1 month extension for my physical card. I am hoping I can find the right person so I can get an extension for the duration of my time in college.

Lorca_Squirrel tell them you have a dumb phone. You can show up with one. They must have to make an exception if you don’t have a smartphone.

and there are still lots of smartphones that dont have nfc build in.

As others say, the university should be able to accommodate people who are unable to use the digital ID.

What's not clear to me, is whether you want to be able to use the digital ID card or not. If you do want to use it, have you tried setting it up on your GrapheneOS device? If you did and it didn't work, what was the issue?

treequell Hopefully OP can give more details. But I assume the Google Wallet part where the ID will be stored which does not support NFC.
