Looks like I'm on 2024072800, but when I tap "Check for updates", it tells me I have the latest version.

Citizen22 Dude. Every update someone asks this despite already having an explanation to it.
You are in the stable channel. You will get the update a few days or hours later depending on the update's size. If you want to receive them as soon as they are released, select the alpha channel.

VAULT @[deleted] yeah. Not being the only company or organization in the ENTIRE WORLD to improperly use the word released and still not want to use it properly after being told 100 times.. Alpha and beta are not releases. Those are builds. Only when something is stable and in prod is it released. smdh

This should be obvious, that the update wont be available until it hits your release channel. However, once it hits the stable channel, i enable the updater app then check for updates( don't leave it on in between updates, please don't ask why, it's personal preference) and it still does not recognize that there should be an update available immediately like it used to, so i have now gone back to sideloading updates with adb in recovery mode.

After the update i can't use apps like Firefox, Aloha, my weather app and Play Store while on VPN, no apps gets an internet connection. As soon as i disable it everything works fine.

Vandium and apps like Signal works just fine while on VPN wich means that there is nothing wrong with my VPN. It started as soon as my phone installed the update.

SirMixAlot The release has been cancelled due to compatibility issues with certain VPN setups and isn't in Alpha anymore. A new release will be available soon. As a temporary workaround, you can enable Private DNS to avoid the connectivity issues.

gosrox yeah I think only announcing a release once it reaches stable will cut down on confusion a lot. Maybe they announce it this way to get alpha and beta testers; although if this is the case then making it clear that this release is only currently available for testers would be beneficial.

Not quite correct. Other software developers also call all their software versions builds, writing this so-called build number in brackets after the version number.
You can also read this every month at Apple, just as an example.

And no matter what the nicknames are: Release grammatically means publication.
Alphas and betas are also published. But not everyone should use it for everything.

However, I agree with all critics that GrapheneOS is the only organisation I know of that uses this type of versioning.
All others give the stable version another number after the usual extensive tests and distribute it separately as an officially finished version.
And this leads to confusion for many (new) GrapheneOS users.

I would think they have a script to release a build into alpha, beta and stable.
It would be good, if this script would also publish a comment in this forum, so everyone knows, at what date which version is in alpha, beta and stable.

That's because the release is rarely ever modified from the original release shipped to the Alpha channel. If there does happen to be a change, a new release is shipped to all channels due to OS rollback protection.
