Hello all,
Relatively new GOS user here. Before I started using Graphene, I researched using FIDO2 security keys and found this excellent post which confirmed for me that installing Google Play Sevices was a prerequisite. I did so, and my Yubikey works great via Vanadium.
I would like to limit interactions with Google as much as possible and using hardware keys is the only reason I have GPS installed. I do not need it for notifications and all apps I currently get from the Play Store I can get from GitHub or the company directly (Proton apps, Signal, Aegis).
I revoked Network permission from Google Play Services and tested a login to ProtonMail via a Vanadium PWA. My security key worked as expected via NFC.
My question is (a) does revoking Network permissions from GPS actually stop communication with Google and (b) have I possibly created issues for myself that I’m not yet aware of?
I’d welcome any input on if this is a good idea, bad idea, or something in between. Thanks.
