How to turn off the screen?

I'm not even sure if this is a GrapheneOS issue. I've used a galaxy s6 phone with its stock OS for my entire life, and after switching to a google pixel 6a with GrapheneOS, I'm getting really annoyed by one thing - when I click the poweroff button, the screen doesn't turn off. It's the first fucking time I feel like an old man who doesn't know how to use a phone properly. Does anybody know how to make it work?

TeaMaster69 If nothing else works, use a laucher that allows double tap to turn off the screen. I use that so the power button won't be the first thing that has to be replaced.

That's definitely not normal behaviour. Have you tried rebooting your device? I know that might be a silly question but it has not been mentioned yet.

I don't subscribe to the suggestions of installing a new launcher or adjusting screen timeout. I don't understand why trying out various launchers is the first troubleshooting step one would attempt?

Something like NeoLauncher. The app that serves as your homescreen, places Widgets etc.

The power button sometimes does not work properly after years of use. So I avoid use of it by locking/unlocking my phone with double tapping the homescreen (what you see when you are not in any app). But not all launchers support this.

Yeah, I've bought a secondhand phone, but the button works for its other functions (turning the phone off, unlocking the bootloader). And to install some bloated launcher shouldn't be neccessary. Is there no other way?

How about a shorter Screen timeout settings? You could consider setting it to 15 seconds which is the shortest time available right now.

When I press the power button on my device, the display is locked and turns off immediately.

Could it be that you have activated the always-on display? If so, you can deactivate it under Settings> Display> Lock screen> Always show time and info.

[deleted] suggestion does not refer to the behavior when pressing the power button but screen behavior when inactive. This can be adjusted via Settings> Display> Screen timeout.

Alright, I'm fine with that. Thanks for telling me about it. Though, is there really no easy way to turn the screen off manually?

fid02 Ehe, I misinterpreted the issue as being that the device doesn't lock. If the device locks but the screen doesn't turn off, then Murcielago's suggestion of checking display settings make sense. :)

Murcielago Okay, yeah, thank you! It's just what I've been looking for. I have no idea why isn't it turned on by default. How do I mark a thread as solved?
