locked Here is a recent publication from 404media that apparently claims that iPhones are harder to hack than Android phones. They claim to have obtained a document sent by Cellebrite to one of their clients. However, the exceptions are the Pixel 6, 7, and 8. According to this article, Cellebrite cannot access these models when they are turned off https://www.rt.com/news/601417-media-android-ios-phones-access/
itsjpb locked already an active thread about this with more detail and more information: https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/14344-cellebrite-premium-july-2024-documentation and surely a better source than rt
secrec locked They don't say what can and can't be "hacked". They just say "most of them". So are "most of them" the really cheap chinese throwaway phones that don't even have selinux enforcing (let alone with butchered policy)?
de0u AlanZ There is nothing wrong with RT. It's not clear there's anything wrong with suggesting that the GrapheneOS project account is a better source of information about exploiting mobile devices than RT.
itsjpb my mistake, wouldn't have mentioned the source if i knew it would spark such controversy. but more to the point, it's an article that mentions a source without linking to it, while only editorializing as opposed to offering solid information.
locked itsjpb The reason I did that, was because the article on 404media was a paid article, so if I linked the original source, only paid members would have been able to read it.
