Hi there, I've installed the Accrescent store from new app store update.
Are there really only 10 apps available?
I first heard about this store over a year ago, but a growth of just 10 apps in over a year is not much

I agree, the store is evolving far too slowly, I hope that other apps will make their appearance because right now it's pretty useless.

AlphaElwedritsch Developer of Accrescent here. Yes, there are only a handful of apps available right now. The reason for this is that the recent focus hasn't been directed on getting more apps in the store, but instead on internal changes to allow Accrescent to include more features and scale to more users. It will be able to include more apps once more of those changes are implemented.

lberrymage I have a few questions.

      1. Will Accrescent allow to filter out proprietary apps? If yes, how it will make sure that there isn't any proprietary libraries in that app?

      2. Will there ever be something similar to F-Droid's Anti-Features?

        Lukas

        1. There aren't plans to do this exactly, but users will be able to filter for open-source apps if they want.

        2. Again, not exactly, but there will be indicators for when an app has ads, in-app purchases, a hard dependency on Play Services, etc.. There may also be something for data usage practices, but that isn't yet determined.

lberrymage do we have any estimated date when the accresant will be allowing more developers to publish their apps? Like a year, two or five?

Grkrz do we have any estimated date when the accresant will be allowing more developers to publish their apps?

Might there be a small number of apps that you think would be particularly beneficial to many users if they were added to the store early?

            lberrymage There's no estimate, no.

Might there be some small number of "early adopter" additional apps that the project would be willing to take on over a time frame of a few months?

de0u Yes, we may take on some additional apps over time. This depends on how much the project can handle maintenance-wise and how willing those app developers are to deal with the early and changing nature of Accrescent. We're not directly reaching out to any developers at this time, however.

              I've de-installed it again.
After reading this information in this thread, I have decided to look at the whole thing again in two or three years.
              Currently, the store is unusable

So that theres a chain of trust for users to install a secure app store that isn't Google Play. It's fine and I don't get where you got this idea that "appstore should contain only GOS apps and Google parts". That's not your decision and GOS has never indicated this was the case as far as I'm aware.

              LazyT Why was this added?

Accrescent was added the GrapheneOS App Store to provide an easy, secure way of obtaining it. Accrescent is GrapheneOS's main recommendation for an app store other than sandboxed Google Play which is already mirrored. GrapheneOS recommends that people contribute to Accrescent if they care about mobile privacy and security because existing Play Store alternatives are fatally flawed.

Please note that my response is based on the following tweets from the GrapheneOS official account:

Shall we badger the app developers of the apps we want on there or is it on Accrescent to add apps? Bitwarden, Proton apps, Standard Notes, Mulvad etc are the main ones that spring to mind. I'd say Nostr and Bitcoin apps as well but they seem to be heading down the zap.store route (although I'm not confident that's any different to Obtainium really other than the social element and I'm not sure on the app signing situation)

I think it's a fantastic idea to have a secure method of obtaining apps (without a google account) personally and is a much needed addition to GOS.

The app library just needs fleshing out which is fairly clear.

Now it's in your face that this is a thing on GOS I'm confident the libary will grow as attention is now on more developers and GOS users.

Not sure why the negative comments.

It's up to devs to add their apps on accrescent, and to maintain them.

How, when the registration is closed?

Sign-up is not yet available to the general public and is only permitted for allowlisted GitHub accounts. This choice was made to ensure that all developers on Accrescent are willing to tolerate the lackluster user experience, console bugs, and frequent policy changes resultant of Accrescent being in its early stages. If you are not allowlisted and are still interested in publishing on Accrescent, you may contact us at contact@accrescent.app to request being allowlisted.
