New user - play store, contacts and google account

I have just installed Graphene (wonderfully easy!) on a Pixel 6a. I have read about different ways to install apps and think I need to use play store, especially so apps auto-update, for security, and to install internet banking apps.

Should I create a new gmail account to do this, or can I use the one from my old (non-Graphene) device? Is it more private if I do the former? And in either scenario, can Google link the account to my phone number from the SIM?

And what is the best way to move contacts over?

I use Google Play store and Obtanium to install apps and keep them updated.

I also installed Google Play for my Banking apps as I dont want to compromise on security with my banking.
I have a couple Fossify Apps installed with Obtanium.

Its your decission if you use a new Google Account or keep using your old one with your Graphene Phone, you have to check with your threat model and decided for yourself.

Others might have more detailed answers, I just wrote how I install apps on my phone.

Regardless how you install apps, Graphene is a huge Security and privacy upgrade compared to stock Android :-)

Google will be able to link any data they receive from the apps to your account.

I don't give contact permission, but contact scopes can limit shared information.
