Signal on tablet without SIM (is it possible to use it like a desktop client?)

On the macOS desktop I use desktop client from Signal (same account as on GOS). Now I want to do the same on GOS Pixel tablet, use Signal without number (only additional client). How does that work? It always asks me to verify my number, but I don't have a SIM in the Pixel tablet.

Unfortunately this is a no-go. Signal docs say that you can link your Android/iOS phone to Desktop or iPad, but not to another phone or Android tablet

As a workaround, you could try making a fresh Signal account on your Pixel tablet using a cheap burner number from SMSPool for SMS verification. Then forward data via messages between the two Signal accounts.

you're trying to use the same account as is on your cellular device, yes? does it not send the verification to that device?

It's possible with Molly FOSS, get it from the F-Droid Repository or Github and set it to connect to an existing Signal account. It will use up one of your 5 Desktops, but it's working perfectly fine.

I use it on the Pixel tablet and on my second Pixel Phone with no issues.
