Bluetooth Honeypot/headphones & music recommendations?

When I'm listening to music on my pre-de-googled Pixel 7 Pro with Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro 2, I get a really horrible, soul-scratching momentary audio static whenever I pass by certain buildings in my city. Is there any way this could be a Bluetooth Honeypot (or Wi-Fi or 5g Honeypot, related to the already buggy modems)? How secure is Bluetooth when it's on and connected to a single device?

And, Samsung requires users to download not just an app but a device-specific DLC to use much of the functionality of their wireless headphones. Can anyone recommend companies that don't require apps to use them in the way you want to customize (eq settings, tap controls, etc)?

And also, how do y'all listen to music if you don't have Spotify?

Bluetooth employs UHF radio waves in the ISM bands, from 2.402 GHz to 2.48 GHz.

There is a lot going on in the 2.4GHz frequency spectrum. Next time you experience interference have a look at what is nearby.

Headphones - I prefer over-the-ear so I'll can't offer any opinions on Buds.
My Sonys do require and app to tweak them a little but I disable the app once that is done. Once in a while "speak-to-chat" turns back on and I need the app to turn it back off. STC will turn off the music if any loud noise happens nearby.
Sony does sound good and seem long lasting but the app is annoying.

The static you are hearing could be a Bluetooth beacon in a store. Just a thought.

Music - stored on my phone (along with many backups). It's a mix of ripped from CDs, Youtube download via Newpipe, and torrrents.

I don't know about a honeypot, but BT is not very secure at all.
I use vlc for music, simple, dosent need to be pretty but very functional for all media types.

You can configure a lot of gadgets, including head/earphones with Gadgetbirdge.
For the noise, it's probably just RF noise getting picked up by the earphones... Sometimes I can hear noise when being close to devices transmitting on similar frequencies to BT, or just interference from motors or other high frequency circuits. But you should investigate that on your own.

lcalamar I use both. All my music that I buy is ripped and I use finamp to stream from my jellyfin server. Else I use innertube mainly to listen to new stuff. If I like it I buy it and add it to Jellyfin. I only mentioned solely streaming apps because the op asked for a Spotify replacement.
