What when Quad9 is down?

It just happened that the Internet connection stopped working because the private DNS server Quad9 was down and still is very slow.
Since I have only been using Quad9 in my Pixel6a for a few days, I do not yet have enough experience with the availability of this server.
Is there an option to enter another server? What do you think?

Oh, that's surprising that Quad9 suddenly has such problems?
I tried their service for a short time about three years ago and it worked fine.

To get even better privacy protection, I then switched to NextDNS.
Their service is free to use for non-excessive private use without any restrictions:

They have a very useful dashboard with statistics and more important, you can easily add more or less strictly working filters.
And the configuration is also very easy.
Of course, Private DNS is supported, which provides an additional layer of security for GOS users.

Cloudflare is a solid choice.

This DNS setting also blocks known malware sites at DNS level.

An alternative could be: personaldnsfilter
personalDNSfilter is a DNS filter app for Android.
personalDNSfilter is also a DNS changer app, you can set any upstream DNS server you trust. It also supports encrypted DNS servers via DoH (DNS over HTTPS) and DoT (DNS over TLS).
It will change the servers automatically, and choose the fastest!

I recommend Adguard or Pihole + your own dns resolver. You can use it for computers but slightly harder for mobile devices as they usually have built in ipv6 dns as a fallback so it might still leak dns queries

Regarding AdGuard - be aware that the company was formed in Moscow in 2009, and later "moved HQ" to Cyprus.

Some may find both Russia and Cyprus (despite EU status) to be less-than-reputable jurisdictions.
Personally I used to enjoy their services but don't use them anymore.

Give their official statement a read before deciding to adopt.
There are more details about their stance on current affairs in Russia which may also sway you one way or another depending on your politics.

AdGuard was founded in 2009 in Moscow. Later we moved our HQ to Cyprus as a conscious decision, in order to operate under the EU law. However, historically the majority of AdGuard developers and other employees have been working from Moscow. This has been true up until recently, when many of our employees are relocating to Cyprus and other countries. Not to mention that we had employees working for AdGuard from other parts of the world, including Ukraine, even prior to the current events. I guess I am writing this to emphasize that we view ourselves as a multinational company that respects European laws and is not tied to any single country, physically or in any other way.

zzz For security and privacy issues, I prefer a service hosted in Russia and not in the countries of the 15 eyes. I don't think Russia passes any type of information, contrary to what the 15 eyes could do. I trust Russia more. that the Anglos

Fair enough, I can understand those positions in general.

Specifically for Adguard though, it feels like they're asking their users to trust both Russian and EU jurisdictions simultaneously, which seems like a large attack surface to me.
Some might prefer just 1x jurisdiction to deal with from a service.

AdGuard servers are located in Frankfurt, Germany, and the apps do not communicate to any servers in Russia. This was a deliberate decision to keep our servers (as well as the company itself) in a different jurisdiction. Even among AdGuard DNS servers, which are supposed to be located all over the world, we don't have any in Russia. With how things are developing, we may soon have no office there either, or have a considerably smaller one. To reiterate:
AdGuard apps do not connect to any servers in Russia.
AdGuard DNS has no servers in Russia.
AdGuard VPN also has no servers in Russia. The one that's said to be in Moscow actually uses some IP address magic to present itself so, but is actually located in the Netherlands.

So with Adguard, you're getting EU servers and HQ, paired with Russian developers and leadership (some located in Moscow, some located in the EU and elsewhere).
