VPN's not properly functioning on Graphere

So I am new to this OS and discovering which apps won't work without Google Play Services, like Uber for example but Uber Eats works fine. I've also been playing around with TOR and VPN's. I've had TOR browser and ProtonVPN working, but when I disconnect ProtonVPN seems to block all incoming connections.

Resetting the internet or phone doesn't solve problem, but deleting app does.

Anyone else experience this?

VPN is very much functioning properly.

Settings > Network and internet > VPN > tap cog icon to right of your VPN > Block connections without VPN

GrapheneOS enables the "Always-on VPN" and "Block connections without VPN" toggles by default to enhance privacy by default when using a VPN.

You can go into settings and toggle those options off should your usecase require that.

Why GrapheneOS shows notification "disconnected from always-on VPN" frequently? Is it a straight connectivity issue e.g. bad cellular reception or VPN server not reachable? Not a software issue at user's site?

Onlyfun It's a network or VPN connectivity issue. It's probably an issue with your networks unless the VPN provider has overloaded servers or bad connectivity.

GrapheneOS right, that's i thought thanks! For some reason to me it looked like it might be a local decision to disconnect and bypass the VPN which actually was not the case, as block non-VPN traffic was on and zero web access attempts were successful before connection was restored by simply opening the VPN app.

GrapheneOS those connection drops are really annoying, any web activity after unlocking device will get stuck due to "disconnected from always on vpn" and requires to open the VPN app then connection restores immediately. Submitted an issue to VPNs support will update here once response received. A little concerned as read that this behavior might indicate authentification activity of connections going through VPNs server by third party advisory.

Recently experience a weird event of not being able to click the VPN section in setting, as it was greyed out until Airplane Mode was toggled on. But still that same section was accessible from within the VPN app itself. So VPN's functionality was not impacted in any way, only access to it's settings required a longer route. I didn't know about this forum, matrix didn't return any aid so had to open an issue on github, got an advice to hard reset which fixed it. Otherwise Mullvad is doing a decent job imo.
