FunnyDuck I had the battery symbol on the 8 but as directed, just held the power button for over 30 seconds and it came back to life. That was on the initial attempt. Since then I have never completed a flash of GOS onto the 8. It just hangs after an initial reboot and never goes to bootloader or user environment.

Ooops what do you mean with "it hangs"? Do you mean it just shows the Google Logo?

In that case, you need to turn it off.

Then press power + volume down to get into bootloader

Then just follow the web installer.

Would suggest to try a different usb cable if youve not already tried that.

Once the update is downloaded shouldnt have to wait any longer than 20 mins.

Different stock Pixel cable used, same result, same location of hang. Still unresolved.

Ooops I was able to install grapheneos in my tablet today.

I was able to boot it after charging it for 12 hours and then followed the steps from web install page.

I think it didn't work last time because the Pixel Tablet was Google Android QPR3 already and grapheneos stable still was on QPR2 and maybe that caused problems with driver or something like that, idk.
That's the only explanation I can think of at least.

Never had a problem with installing grapheneos before (had 4 graphene devices now).

FunnyDuck what I mean by hanging is it sits in fastboot mode after initial reboot during flash and never does anything else. There is no popup window to reselect the device and continue, web installer just shows the loading bar and says restarting device. It just looks like a communication error somewhere. The process is stalled.

I always had a "reconnect to device" (or something like that) button next to the "restarting device" loading bar that I needed to press after the device was done restarting.

Does it hang after the first restart when you flash the images? Or do the first reboots work?

In the hope that it was installing or doing something I left it undisturbed for an hour and it never changed.

FunnyDuck this was the answer!

Thank you. I had to reconnect about 6-8 times throughout the process. Each time pressing the “unlock boot loader” button on the install page so the install device would find the Pixel 8. Once the device was seen again the process would continue. Until finally the “lock boot loader” button became available and then locked the device. All good, just not sure why the tablet loses contact with the pixel8 each time it boots. Thanks everyone.

The device turns off and back on, but stays in fastboot mode. It never transitions to bootloader or user view. It’s as if the entire process starts with reboot, but it sticks in fastboot.

And the web installer device just says “restarting device”. It restarts it once and that’s it.
