Lucario1829 third party rcs isnt possible currently
Are you sure about that? According to Wikipedia, RCS is an open standard. People misperceive it as a Google thing or a mainly U.S. thing. But it is a standard developed by GSMA, a global industry group for mobile carriers. There are a few different messaging platforms/OSes, in different countries, that support RCS, other than Google and Apple. And I thought part of the point of Google pushing carriers to run the backend, rather than Google itself, was to increase interoperability.
I assume an attempt to develop a third party RCS app, would still require compliance with the backend system and that might create the same problems (or not?) that we currently experience in GOS. And it may not be worth the hassle. But I'm not sure that it isn't theoretically possible.
I guess I assume that ulitimately, if RCS really does fully replace SMS, it will be supported at the system level (isn't this already how Apple does it?). I think this is how SMS works. That's why anyone can create a third party messaging app to handle SMS, because really the app is just an interface for the messages, which are actually handled and stored by the system.
Anyway, if anyone really understands how this all works, I would be interested for their input. But it seems like in principle, maybe, someone could develop a third party RCS app, it just would be way too much work to make it worthwhile.
