This doesn't work for me for whatever reason.

I'm using a Pixel 8, GOS 20240531, AT&T, with updated apps. Do you mind posting this info as well, to help others narrow down what works and what doesn't?

Also, have you been able to enable RCS at all before the new google play checks were added? Maybe that plays a role, as in my situation I'm having to set up RCS for the first time on my device and nothing has worked so far.

About 2 weeks ago I was running stock Google with root and Google decided it's perfectly fine to block messages and some calls. You can read about multiple people having that issue on xda. That is not OK, who knows what that call or message may have been about, how important it might be. Messages used to fallback to standard sms/mms which you'd at least get them. My advice, get far away from Google and stay there.

PaulDavis actually I've got a brother who is very very busy and very very bad at responding, so it does help to know if he's seen a message or not.
I also have nieces, and when a video of them is sent via SMS, it looks pixelated and crappy. When sent via Signal/RCS/Imessage, the compression and loss is lessened.

5rlyn That's where I'm lucky to not have to need that sort of service. I have no one in my life, so the only messages I get are from the hospital and pharmacy, and they block responses

n8w I'm having issues with getting RCS to connect as well, I used the listed steps but it seems it might be an att issues? I've had it to work in the past when the recommended solution was to download and install the old messages apk. No luck so far with the current messages apk, I'm going to try later on if it will work on the old apk

Sbpr Wasn't able to get this working. Google's phone number settings say that auto verification is pending for my device indefinitely.

Thank you so much installing App Ops and Shizuku and allowing "Read Device Identifiers" and force stopping messages and turning RCS back on fixed registered right away. Tested it with a friend and it is using RCS now with end to end encryption. Made this account just to chime in thank you anyone wondering I am on Verizon.

Onyx5783 I Heard some carriers require "Carrier Services" ATT being one of them I believe try those steps after installing Carrier Services.

Try these steps again but reinstall the latest version of the messages app. Also reinstall the Google app that needs to be working first As I believe messages uses the app intially

Make your place services is set up correctly and then reinstall the Google app, set that up, and then set up messages. Make sure you're getting Google and messages through the play store

I've tried the method granting permissions with Shizuki, installing Google app, installing carrier services, and toggling Wi-Fi on/off among other things with no luck. Anyone else have any other suggestions? I'm on U.S. Mobile (Verizon network). Seems like Verizon is the problem carrier most of the time when enabling RCS

kyle just to confirm, did you toggle the automatically verify phone number option in the sandboxed google play settings as described above as well as give sms, notifications, and network permissions to play services, google Messages, and the Google app?

            • kyle replied to this.

Sbpr Yep, I did toggle automatically verify phone number, and gave those permission to Messages, Google app, Google Play Store, and Google Play Services

Anyone able to get this working on AT&T in the US? I have done these steps above on my old Pixel7 and new Pixel8 with no luck. I did confirm that RCS worked when I reverted my 7 to stock and the 8 before installing GOS. I installed carrier services but it doesn't seem to ever run.

              Edit:

              • Gave play services notification, SMS and network.
              • Installed google app and gave it the same
              • Installed messages and gave it same.
              • Tried installing carrier services
              • Check permissions in App Ops for messages "read device identifiers perm (already had it)
              • Checked Google settings for auto phone number validation
              • added number to the SMS settings buried in messages app
              • Someone mentioned changing number in sim settings. I couldn't find that but verified my number was right in SIM info.

Gos on Pixel 7, Switzerland carrier.

              1. Install Play services.
              2. Install Google Messages and disable RCS in the app
              3. Give SMS, phone, contact and network permissions to Google Messages
              4. Give Network, phone, SMS permissions to Play Services.
              5. Install Shizuku and app opps. Enable wireless USB debugging with Shizuku.
              6. Force close Messages and Play Services and clear cache.of both.
              7. Give the read device identifiers permission to Play Services.
              8. Open Messages, enable RCS. It will connect in minutes (I would say max 1h).
              9. You can remove device identifiers permission to Play Services and uninstall App Opps and Shizuku.

It disconnected after a few weeks. Do the trick again and it will reconnect.
I did not touch any setting in the Google settings in the parameter.

83639273 Wow it worked! I missed the device identifiers for play services. Thank you so much!

Edit. Well it said it was connected but wouldn't actually send an RCS message. Hum...

I shut it off and back on and it connected again. But none of my messages are sent as RCS. More digging to do! However a very positive step in the right direction! Thank you again!

After adding back the phone number in messages advanced, clearing cache for messages and restarting the phone it started sending RCS messages. Thanks to all.
