I just upgraded my 2nd device to iOS 18. It is a smooth implementation. Glad to see they are borrowing feature ideas from GrapheneOS to improve user privacy.

I think Graphene has had contact scopes for year(s) and it seems logical to think apple engineers would be combing through all other operating systems to see what features they could borrow and implement.

Is there proof they borrowed it from GrapheneOS? Of course not.

But if you've seen iOS and Android features over the first decade or so of the smartphone wars, it was very clear they copied the best features from each other along the way...

The concept of limiting contact access to apps is such an obvious privacy enhancement to a security and privacy focused OS that for a long time I wondered why Apple hadn't implemented a similar feature already. I think it's very conceivable that they came up with the feature on their own without needing to get inspired by looking at the features of other OSs. AOSP will probably follow.

fid02 They've had 'photo scopes' for a while, so it's not a massive leap of imagination to come up with contact scopes. As usual it's a case of 'what took them so long?'

It makes me happy to consider that they borrowed the idea from GrapheneOS. Since there is (at least for now) no material evidence they didn't, I will assume that they did. ;)
