Hey. So I have decided to try and go about using my GrapheneOS phone as android auto device, rather than my OP7 with lineageOS.

I drive a Mazda 6 2015 that I had fitted with an after market android auto device by Mazda - I suppose it's the one they used when Mazda finally got around to the Android Auto game. It's a cabled connection.

I'm using a Google Pixel 7 Pro with dual sim (eSim+normal sim). The Google Play / Android auto profile is a secondary user profile, not the main one.

Now for the problems I'm facing:

After setting up cabled connection, the app decided not to connect - It was only after setting up wireless android auto it finally connected.
Accepting that my head unit refused to connect without wireless permissions, I figured I'd try getting my old Carsifi adapter to work - A device providing wireless android auto.
Now that doesn't work, because the secondary user profile is not allowed to change WiFi settings
Calls in the car
a. I'm not allowed to select what sim to use for a call on the head unit. Even setting a standard sim to use, still makes the phone prompt for a sim to use.
Selecting the sim on my phone correctly puts the sound on the car system.
b. Receiving a call, I'm not allowed to pick it up either by a button on the head unit, or the button on the steering wheel
c. Receiving a call and picking up on the phone, the sound isn't on the car system

Any insights on how to approach this would be greatly appreciated

altair0001 I can't offer you any direct solutions. But I also had problems connecting via USB at first. I had to make some settings before it worked. But unfortunately I did not log them.
I think it was mainly permissions, e.g. also in Google play services and Android auto (both in the sandbox). Anyway, it's been working for quite a while.
As for making calls, unfortunately I can't help either, as I have two sim cards, but always start calls with the first one.
Does Android Auto work without problems with a normal smartphone?

Some systems need wireless despite only connecting via cable. Seems the system you have behaves this way.

What's wrong with using the owner profile for this? I don't use Android Auto myself, but I imagine it's expected that it only works in the owner profile. I can ask to make sure, though.

Regarding your issues with calls, I'll need to defer to the community as I don't know if there are any setting you need to tweak etc.

I went through the settings, and as I said, i had to give it both cable and wireless permissions despite only connecting on cable. I tried to delete the bluetooth driver on my LineageOS phone without a sim card so I could connect my grapheneos to talk. Then it just refused to connect.
So I'm certain my unit enforces a wireless connection as well as a cable connection; and again; as I said. I got the entertainment and maps working. Just not the calling.

My original phone, Oneplus 7 pro - Before I installed lineage - would work with dual sim. I only installed lineageOS when switching to graphene. Initially I had to predetermine which sim to use, but eventually android auto allowed me to choose when calling via the head unit.

I figured running google stuff with elevated privileges would be better in separate profile?
