I'm trying to add an MP3 ringtone, and tapping "+ Add Ringtone" just copies whatever file i choose into the Ringtones folder, but the file doesn't show up in the list of available ringtones.
"+ Add Ringtone" just copies, file not in list
I can't provide anything useful, but testing did work for me.
What filetype is your ringtone?
Yep, that's what I'm using, too.
Still can't get custom sounds to show up in the list of available ringtones. :/
I can't find any help online beyond basic instructions on how to make ringtones, which is what had this result. Is there a specific sampling or file source or something I need to use? Or a specific metadata or a permission? I used audacity to create an mp3, copied it into my pixel 8 over USB, kept the original song's metadata, and selected it via the + Add ringtone button. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Is there a size limit? GOS Files app has tagged it as a large file
No it isn't, I just don't understand the UI yet
... Can someone at least point me to a better place to ask this question?
I have found Matrix the best option in the past for getting help.
... Great, I need another app. OK, let me see if the forum has a thread about matrix clients I guess
This same thing is now happening to me! Pixel 7 Pro. I first installed GrapheneOS about a year ago. No problems adding an .mp3 to the list of ringtones. Now when I click "+ Add ringtone" in the list of ringtones, it just duplicates the file that I click! It worked before because I can see the very first ringtone I added in the list. But now it won't let me add anything else to the list. Please help!
Just installed GrapheneOS on a completely different Pixel 7 Pro. Totally fresh install. Selecting an .mp3 from the "+ Add ringtone" STILL duplicates the file, but this time it now appears in the list of available ringtones AND I can successfully set it as a ringtone. As a matter of fact, it appears TWICE in the list of ringtones! Probably because of the duplication bug. Once I go into Files and delete the duplicate, it then only appears once in the ringtones list. Still no luck on my first phone (see above). Both phones are the same build numbers: 2024070201
SOLUTION: Got it to work on my first phone by changing the file type from .mp3 to .wav using Audacity
- Only .wav files successfully add to the ringtone list on my first phone (older - 1 year of use)
- .wav files and .mp3 files add to the ringtone list on my second phone (newer - fresh install)
- Whether files get added to the list or not, they all duplicate when selected from the "+ Add ringtone" option
- If an .mp3 or .wav file does successfully get added to the ringtones list, it appears twice (until the duplicate file is deleted, then it only appears once in the list)
