Now or wait?

I'm looking at either getting a pixel 8 or waiting till the pixel 9 comes out, which is speculated in to arrive in the next 3-4 months. I've never used/installed grapheneos and I was wondering how quickly they are able to develop the OS for the new phone version? Is it within a few weeks? months? I'm asking because if it takes several months, i dont want to wait 3-4 months for the phone to come out then another 2 for GOS to make a compatible OS. I'd rather just get the pixel 8 now.

Or if you can wait until next year for pixel 10 which will have g5 non Samsung chiip.

Honestly, I think you should just get a pixel 8. There is still a long (hopefully but its google so...) support time left, I think like 6-5 years. Plus, as someone who was lucky to have had experience with switching from a 6 to a 7 then a 8. These phones are basically identical apart from screen size/ rounding. This is also not helped by Google's focus on "AI" everything which will probably lead then to repackage the same phone as a brand new thing. Hope this helps :)

Either get the 8 now during the june sale or get a 9 on sale from Thanksgiving Holiday to Christmas

Normally they're very efficient at supporting new hardware but its impossible to really know without anyone having a clue what the new hardware will be.

To add some historical context this is how long it took GrapheneOS to get on the past two main phone series (Pixel 7 and 8). Note, I'm not including A series, the Fold, or the Tablet, since they are based on the main phone series, which generally means it was even quicker to port.

Pixel 7 - Released October 13, 2022 - First GrapheneOS release on October 16, 2022. Just three days.

Pixel 8 - Released on October 12, 2023 - First GrapheneOS release on October 23. Just eleven days.

Of course this is no guarantee for how long the 9 series would take to port. But based on history, it seems likely the GrapheneOS developers will do it very quickly.
