Homescreen App vanishing, also: renaming link?

I'm often using onthegomap.com to create hiking and running routes. Usually i do this on my PC, but with that i cannot save and reload routes (though i just noticed this is possible now).
Now of course i want to use this site with my new Pixel+GOS, and i wanted to use it via the homescreen, simply because it has the neat advantage of storing a route from session to session without deletion. So i add the site app to the homescreen via Vanadium and it works great - until i restart the phone - then suddenly the icon is gone. When i re-add the app to the homescreen and open it, i can see the previously saved route. After restarting the device, the link is gone again.

How can i solve this?

Also, is there a way to make this work with several links (of the same site) on the homescreen, so i can have several different routes saved in their respective sandbox, for example by renaming the link?

As a heads-up, i tried installing other websites as app on the homescreen like strava.com and computerbase.de, and they show the same behaviour - the links are removed as soon as i restart the device.

Help would be appreciated!

It happened two days ago on two of my accounts on pixel 7 and in the same way as described above. On the other accounts there were no problems.
Hope someone can find out what went wrong and tell us what to do about it.

The only other thing i tried before disabling Secure app spawning was to add a link to the homescreen via Brave browser. Not a PWA (which showed the same behavior as mentioned in sparrow ), just a link. No idea if this made the PWAs work for some reason, or if secure app spawning was responsible. For now they work even after enabling SAS again.

I don't have this problem. Maybe you can try clearing Vanadium's storage and trying again? Also, do you use the default launcher, or do you use another one? And, finally, have you tried with a different user profile?

i already tried clearing the cache and deleting saved data including all browsing data, and lots of other different settings to no avail. Using default launcher here.

Also, sometimes a PWA is saved for one or two restarts, but eventually they're gone again, Most of the time they vanish after first restart, though.
I'll try a sec profile later this day. Where can i create that profile?

Alright, i just tried a completely fresh secondary profile without any changes and have the same behavior.

I'm open for suggestions, the phone is not needed currently so i can test settings if anyone has ideas!

sparrow not sure what it could be then, especially if it happens on a new profile. Does this happen with other PWAs as well? Not just from the one site? Also when testing did you have one PWA added to the home screen or multiple? If multiple, does one stick around after a restart?

I just tried the same with the Brave browser and its PWAs show the same behavior. So this is not caused by Vanadium itself but another, maybe generic system setting or problem.
I can however add links to directories via Total Commander to the homescreen. These links are not removed, they don't count as PWAs though as they are opened in Total Commander.

I currently seem to have fixed the issue, still restarting the phone now and then to see if the PWAs stick. So far i restarted at least 10 times (never reached that many restarts before, not even close).
What i changed was Settings - Security - "Secure app spawning" which i disabled for testing purposes.

Now i'm not sure if disabling this setting is a good idea, so i activated it again after sufficient tests, and for now it still works, even after adding another (fourth) PWA for testing.

So, ideas as to why this is happening?

I tried three different PWAs to be sure, so my guess is this doesn't have anything to do with the respective site.
I tried different configurations, single PWA, multiple, multiple in folder, single and multiple in dock.

Sometimes the PWAs stick around for one or two restarts for no apparent reason, but eventually they disappear. If i have multiple PWAs, they disappear together.

sparrow I honestly have no idea why changing that would fix this issue for you. For all I know, that setting should not affect saved PWAs. But, yes, I would keep secure app spawning on. The feature is explained here: https://grapheneos.org/usage#exec-spawning
