I have a fresh install of grapheneos on Pixel 6a. Despite only keeping the app open for a few minutes a day, the app is responsible for 30% of my battery usage. Compared to stock, my battery is doing 2-3x worse, needing to recharge 2-3 times a day whereas stock usually gave me a full day charge and then some.

I have no user profiles, just the owner, and sandboxed play services running. I have RCS activated and working currently (which is the only reason I have Google Messages installed).

Interesting is that I was browsing and watching videos on Brave for several hours and even during that time, Google Messages in the background was still using 2x as much battery than Brave.

In addition to Google Messages, the battery settings say that System apps are using 30% of my battery.

Not sure how useful this is, but the phone usually drains 20-30% while I'm sleeping if I leave it off the charger. On stock, it was rarely more than 5%.

Also, my phone has been noticeably hotter since switching to GOS, even when all apps are closed and the phone is locked.

Sbpr It sounds like it's doing something it shouldn't be.

In the app settings, have you granted it permission to run in the background and its battery usage set to "unrestricted"? You can try changing it to optimized to see if that fixes it.

I'm assuming Google Play is installed in the same profile?

You can also try clearing the app's storage and set it up again to see if that fixes anything.
