Why can google keep asking you to update a particular app?

Before I was on GrapheneOS, with regular Android, google never reminded me to update my apps. but now it asks to update Swiftkey every day. why can it do that, even though it's in the sandbox? And how can I turn it off?

How exactly is it doing that? I'm pretty sure you're referring to a new feature in Google Play that the app (in this case Swiftkey) opts into. Google Play being sandboxed doesn't come into play here at all.

This would be the same on stock OS.

Maybe so. When I open the settings in Play Store app, "Notification available" is enabled "as soon as updates are available".
When I try to disable it, a system window pops up saying "No notifications are allowed from this app".
Is it better now to enable it in GrapheneOS and disable it in Play Store? Would that be a solution?

Update:
I just found out that in the settings automatic updates were checked. I unchecked it. Hope the issue is fixed with that.
