[deleted] there must be a reason the mods removed the post, likely because they don't want this forum to be used for political discussion or misinformation. I have seen the link before it got removed and can tell you this is just about creating FUD. Look into the person in question and their position, look into Signal's track record, look at the Open Source code. You'll see that your concerns are unfounded. If Signal actually got degraded, people will quickly report it here. There are good reasons not to use Signal, but the article you found ain't one of them.
So my request is: Please stop bringing up your deleted post which doesn't concern the original and really profound topic you created. This thread attracts a lot of good questions, concerns and comparisons. Let's keep comparing two of the best messengers out there and help people make informed decisions. Let's base our comparisons on facts, not fiction.
I'm not speaking for the GOS project or mods here, just from my experience on how things are handled.
Now back to the topic. :)
From what I understand both Signal and SimpleX are great but for different use cases. Signal has by far the largest user base (of the serious privacy messengers), but needs a phone number which can be acquired by using jmp.chat or silent.link. Also only one account can be used with the app, which can be compensated by using Signal Beta, Molly's many versions and different user profiles on GOS. It's not perfect, but now that we have usernames it's managable for most threat models (in my opinion).
SimpleX doesn't have these disadvantages, but comes with a smaller user base (harder to find or convince all your peers) and probably has fewer developers and eyes on the code. But honestly, I don't see any reason not to use it if I wanted to connect to particular groups or people. The missing notification feature is a bummer though...
