Hi,
first of all thanks for GrapheneOS, I am very happy with it, on different smartphones.
However, now I have a problem on my new smartphone. I installed GrapheneOS a few days ago on my Pixel 6a (Bulid: TP1A.221005.003.2022100300) and now I noticed that every time I restart the smartphone, it establishes connections to many, many Google addresses and Google Maps addresses in different countries. For example to google.com, google.at, google.bg, maps.google.ad, maps.google.ca etc.
These are just examples, far more Google addresses are contacted, as well as other Maps services like maps.apple.com, maps.yandex.com etc. And this at every system start. Unfortunately, I don't know what data is transferred.
Via Netguard I found out that the system app "Intent Filter Verification Service" is responsible for this. I first revoked the network permission of the app, which helped. Previously, the app had already consumed 12.5mb via background connections.
I do not have this issue on my Pixel 6 with a similar configuration.
But why are these connections being established?
Is the app buggy?
Is this a security issue?
And is the problem known?
And is it problematic if I remove the network permission from the Intent Filter Verification Service?
I would greatly appreciate any feedback on this.
Many thanks and best regards
