I'm wondering if anyone knows how to make vanadium automatically open any reddit link with redlib as the front end instead. I can do this manually in the URL by replacing "reddit . com" with "redlib . xxx" but that's cumbersome.

Roger according to their github, you'll need one of two extension for this. https://github.com/redlib-org/redlib?tab=readme-ov-file#instances

Easiest is probably to just use a browser with extension support exclusively for reddit. If you want to stick to Vanadium because of security and privacy, you'll have to deal with the default feature set which is tailored to be secure and private (and therefore without features like extension support or fingerprintable setups with auto-redirect).

That's how I think this works, I have no experience with redlib and am not speaking for the GOS project.

I also found this script but I guess it's even more invasive than the extensions.

One last thing I can imagine is an app for Android that changes the links when you use the share functionality, just like the Scrambled Exif app removes metadata from photos before sharing them. I haven't found such app for reddit links, but maybe somebody else knows...

some search engines have this capability afaik, kagi as an example.

I use a very handy app for this, called 'UntrackMe'. It's available on F-droid. It will send every Reddit link you click to a Redlib instance of choice. It works in most browsers, including Vanadium, Brave and Mull.

Enable Reddit to Teddit, and enter your favourite Redlib instance (I use redlib.pussthecat.org). Besides Reddit, this app will also let you replace Youtube links with Invidious, and Wikipedia links with Wikiless.

The app offers some more alternatives, but not all of them still work (like Nitter for Twitter, Bibliogram for Instagram, and Proxitok for Tiktok).

This one does still work though.

Edit: And technically Nitter does too, to some extent. I've been using nitter.poast.org with some success.

Dumdum What proxitok instance do you use? I tried several, but I got none of them to work for me.

The main proxitok.pabloferreiro.es instance by the Proxitok dev themselves works, but only for certain elements (primarily individual tiktok videos) and not user pages. Information can be found on this issue.

Unfortunately a lot of these platforms are cracking down hard on front ends, and workarounds are something that people are trying their best but struggle with (or just outright gave up on in Bibliogram's case).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and the quick response. I ended up using @Johnny-Bravo 's suggestion of the UntrackMe app, it has solved the problem perfectly for me. Kagi looks promising but I can't justify the cost at the moment, and extensions and scripts are out of my wheelhouse.

And thanks everyone for sharing the specific urls to the instances of these services that you use. To add mine to the fray, I use redlib.zaggy.nl for reddit

          Quick update:

UntrackMe appears to crash and not work when you allow Vanadium to "always" open links with Untrack me. This option appears when you click on a reddit/Twitter/ect. link in Vanadium with UntrackMe installed, a popup on the bottom of the screen appears giving you options of apps with which to open the link, and an option to either open the link with the chosen method "just once" or "always." As long as I keep choosing "just once," UntrackMe seems to be working properly. It's still much faster to redirect to private front-ends using this UntrackMe two-click method than manually editing the URL, so for me this remains a good solution. This is on a Pixel 7. And I have UntrackMe configured to "open by default" all reddit links.

Hope this helps in case anyone runs into the same issue.
