purchasing from google pixel store

I have almost pulled the trigger on buying the 8 pro. I have seen a lot of posts here of buying and having it non OEM unlocked. If I buy straight from the store will I be okay?

Out of interest: Can you link to some threads where people say they couldn't get a pixel 8 pro OEM unlocked from Google? I can't find any, just people who bought at carriers or second hand market. In general Google, BestBuy and Swappa will give you obvious OEM unlockable options.

[deleted] I commented on that. Person bought an 8a (not Pro) from Amazon. My assumption if there are reports on the Google Store is that it only affects the 8a as it's a very new device. There were similar issues with the 6a two years ago and after some time it could be solved by updating Stock OS. Probably it will be similar here, but your 8 Pro shouldn't be affected as it's almost a year old and no such reports emerged.

Btw. What storage size will you go for? There's everything between 128GB and 1TB and I'm contemplating about getting an 8 Pro as well...

[deleted] Buying from Amazon is not buying it from Google. Amazon is known to have major issues caused by mixing the supply across all vendors selling a product. This means you can end up getting counterfeits of products despite buying from the official vendor because Amazon mixes the first party supply with others. For Pixels, they could mean they're mixing unlocked devices with carrier devices. It would be an Amazon error in that case, by not properly differentiating the unlocked and locked devices. There is no evidence of anything wrong beyond failures by retailers.

You haven't stated your country. Perhaps rules are different around the world. In England I bought my new 8 pro from an eBay seller, "open not used", and had no issues.

PaulDavis yes. And in the EU, probably the UK and maybe elsewhere outside the US, you can also safely buy from a carrier if needed, they're unlocked and not messed with by them.
