Molly+UP not receiving messages unless in foreground

I run Molly-FOSS and use UnifiedPush for notifications.

This set up used to work but after installing Graphene I can't get it to work, not sure if I'm missing something or there's a different issue.

Both Molly and my UP distributor have background usage enabled and it set to unrestricted. When I follow mollysocket's troubleshooting guide, specifically the The status is "OK" or "OK: Air Gapped" but I still don't get notifications part, with Molly in the foreground I receive the notification but in the background the notification doesn't come through.

Their troubleshooting guide says:

If you receive a test notification (image bellow), then you should check that Molly and your distributor have unrestricted battery usage. You should check if you have additional configuration for your device regarding battery management: https://dontkillmyapp.com/.

And this makes sense to me, it seems like Molly or the UP distributor are still getting killed in the background. But I don't know why. Any help is much appreciated.

gridlocker Molly push notifications work perfectly on GrapheneOS without any special configuration beyond the usual unrestricted battery mode. Whether you're using them via Molly's built-in push, FCM or UnifiedNlp it will work fine. You do not have UnifiedNlp Configured correctly, and it's not a GrapheneOS specific issue.

You did not configure this the same way on GrapheneOS as you did elsewhere, and you're incorrectly blaming that on GrapheneOS.

Put it through a translator of your choice :)

I think the issue could be that you don't have a Mollysocket server. That's required for Molly-UP to work. You can self-host it or use a "public" server. The server admin won't be able to read your messages. The guide I linked gives you an example configuration for the Mollysocket server at adminforge.de.

Turn off battery saver or do not disturb if they're enabled.
