Can't make/rec calls/txts but have internet access

I'm new to Graphene. Install was straightforward but my phone (Pixel 8) can't make or receive calls or txts. I do seem to be able to access the internet though. I also noticed a very low signal strength compared to what I usually get. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

gearsmithy Hello gearsmithy, Have you contacted your cell service provider to see if they can verify they see your device on their network?

gearsmithy And I'm going to guess that you have rebooted the phone?

Are you getting any errors when you try to make a call? What happens when you try to make a call? Can you provide your build number under system > about phone for the next person that jumps in here and also provide your cellular carrier.

I'm sure somebody will help you figure out this hiccup. Hang in there.

Thank you. My build number is 2024050700. Carrier is spectrum (which uses Verizon).

gearsmithy I was probably editing my last post when you posted your build number and carrier. LOL So you probably didn't see my question of did you get an error message or what happens when you try to make a call?

Also, did you contact Spectrum or did you call Verizon directly to verify you were on the network?

When I try to make a call it says "Mobile network not available." I contacted Spectrum, they said they can see the phone on their end. I even had them send me a new SIM just in case, still no calls/txts. Not sure if this is relevant but the carrier network seems to have a low signal and intermittently cuts out (never had that issue with my 4 (running Google) or 4a (running Calyx)

gearsmithy gearsmithy, It's all relevant, so details are great to have when troubleshooting. That being said, have you tried to drive to a location with a stronger signal and make a call from there?

Also, take a look at this... Settings > Network and Internet > Sims > Verizon, is advanced calling (use LTE...) enabled?

Try and keep close track of any settings that you change in case you need to revert back to the original.

I don't see any option for advanced calling. Calls Preference and SMS Preference are both greyed out and indicating 'Spectrum'. I've messed with the preferred network type and that doesn't seem to help either. I haven't tried using the phone from a location with better signal (I live in the mountains and signal isn't great to begin with). But I'll give that a try.

gearsmithy Hmmm, Try this to get to that setting. Go to Settings and in the search field at the top just type in volte. Look for an option that says, "Use LTE services to improve voice..." If you see it, then select it. Then scroll down and see if you then see use LTE services and if you can enable it from there.

I would think if Spectrum sees you on the network, everything should be working. So it could very well be that those beautiful mountains are the issue. It's a trade-off LOL.

Yeah it takes me back to the Spectrum settings screen with the greyed out call and sms preferences. It's strange because when I pop the SIM into my 4a I don't have this issue.

So this is interesting. I put the SIM in my 4a (Calyx) and searched for volte. It took me to the same setting screen. Again both Call Preference and SMS Preference were greyed out but instead of saying "Spectrum" under the menu option, it says "Verizon". Not sure if that makes a difference but it is a difference.

gearsmithy The settings that I'm trying to get you to look at are below the call preference and SMS preference that are grayed out. It sounds like you're getting to the correct setting screen, but you just need to scroll the page below the two grayed out options that you see. Directly below the SMS preference that's grayed out, you should see mobile data, then roaming, then app data usage, data warning limit and advanced calling. That's where the use LTE service toggle switch is. Then below that is preferred network. Make sure these are set to the "recommended" option.

Sorry, not trying to frustrate you or make you crazy. LOL. You're on the right page. You just need to scroll down past those two grayed out options to get to the other settings.

gearsmithy Have you tried setting "Preferred network type" to 5G?

commodore64 Yes, I've tried every preferred network in there and the problem persists. I do have a new data point that's interesting - I just drove to a location where I historically have been able to get full bars. The signal strength on this phone never goes over 2, and intermittently cuts. I'm going to try re-installing the stock OS to see if the problem persists to rule out hardware issues (which would be odd, seeing as this is a brand new phone straight from Google).

well, I'm having the same problems on stock google. Going to take this to a Spectrum store today to see if they have any thoughts.

Okay, I went to the Spectrum store and they did something on their end and reset the network settings on my phone and now it works (on stock Google). So we're working with known good hardware now. Going to try re-installing GOS and see if that fixed my problem.

Looks like that did it, it must have been something on the carrier's side. The reinstall went fine and now I have a GOS Pixel 8. Woohoo!
