Thank you all. @DeletedUser29 @Murcielago that solution is perfect! I should have looked more thoroughly in that menu, it seems obvious once you know about it :)

Edit: note to anyone looking for the same thing: the silent mode doesn't disable the vibrations when interacting with the phone (switching between apps, typing, etc.), so it's not fully silent, but I personally consider it a minor inconvenience.

TanguyP If you don't want the vibration at at all from navigating, you can disable it by (Settings > Sound > Vibrations and Haptics > Touch Feedback) Just turn that slider to off.

Well they're really two different things. One is vibrations for notifications/communication and the other is haptic feedback while you use it. So it makes sense to have different controls. If you don't want haptics you need to go to Settings > Accessibility > Vibrations and haptics and adjust the settings.

Found an "acceptable" solution :

Downside is "silent" mode triggers DND mode, which is not the same thing but google seems to believe it is as it is an android limitation. Maybe the devs will find a workarround... https://github.com/grmasa/Sound-Toggle/issues/15

But still way more acceptable than having to use phisical volume buttons and two more clicks to achieve this.

So to save you tapping your phone screen twice with your finger, after pressing the volume button to place the phone in silent mode,

you would rather download a third party app into your secure and private phone, that does not actually place the phone in silent mode, but do not disturb mode, and to you that's acceptable.... because maybe the Devs of the app can find a work around.
I'm lost for words.........

I don't consider it an acceptable solution to install an additional app that requires 3 permissions and currently has 18 stars on GitHub just to save one click (if I understand correctly: press volume button + 2 taps vs. swipe down + tap) apparently still not doing exactly what you want

But that's just my personal opinion.

I would be interested to know whether the corresponding Quick Tile used with Sound Toggle App is accessible when the screen is locked—for security reasons, some Quick Settings require the screen to be unlocked. I briefly tested it with “Modes” (obviously not the same thing)—to change these, the screen has to be unlocked first (workaround described above DeletedUser29 works without screen unlocking).

I see 2 required permissions that seems obvious for this app to work (access dnd and vibration).

Anyway this app makes my life easier, seems to match OP's demand and may be usefull to other people.
