Please check me, prior to installing

I have an unlocked Pixel 7a, Ubuntu 22.04LTS, official Pixel usb-c to usb-c cable, and my laptop has a usb-c jack.

I use Brave and know not to use private mode, to turn off shields, to turn off my VPN, and to install fastboot before starting.

Am I missing anything? Also, is there some way to test this combination of hardware and software for possible communication problems before diving in?

Speeduser7533 have you confirmed you can unlock the bootloader? People get carrier unlocked and the ability to unlock the bootloader mixed up all the time.

Speeduser7533 there is little risk using the web installer, which also tells you how to prepare and what OS and Browser is supported.

They recommend against Chromium on Ubuntu, because there are issues with Snap. This could be an issue with Brave if you installed it as Snap, given it's based on Chromium. I have no experience with Ubuntu as I used Fedora and GrapheneOS (secondary device) for the web installer. Maybe somebody else can give advice here, but I'd say try it out and have Brave or Chrome (installed via apt or deb package) ready as backup solution.

Speeduser7533 I used Brave with shields on running on NixOS over a VPN with a third party USB-A-to-C cable. And it worked perfect. So I'm going to say you're probably extra-perfect.

Haven't tried anything yet. Why would I not be able to unlock the bootloader? It's an unlocked Pixel straight from the Google store.

Unless I'm missing something which is entirely possible.

I verified that Brave is not installed as a snap.

Also I have installed android-sdk-platform-tools-common, version 28.0.2+6.
That's the correct version I should have, right?

I see you've done your homework. The fwupd bug comes to mind too, insufficient storage space is a common troublemaker as well.

You don't have to sweat it either way, take my word for it the web installer literally can't brick your phone. Even if you were to yank the cable mid installation, the worst that could happen is that the device is temporarily left with no operating system.

I guess I should also turn off the SIM lock (or whatever Verizon calls it) in my provider's account, and set up an alternative 2FA method in case I have problems getting the mobile service to recognize the sim in the new OS? Or is the sim tied to the device hardware (meaning Verizon won't know anything has changed)?

Back up everything if this device has been used . then proceed with the unlock process to see if it indeed can be unlocked . Verizon devices are the ones that seem to give the most trouble .

Will do. It's on the Verizon network but it is not a Verizon device. Pure unlocked Pixel 7a.
