If you don't like the minimum priority notifications shown when a check for updates determines you're already up-to-date you can turn it off.

I want to reduce the frequency of the checking for updates. This wasn't explicitly clear in my post before, that's on me. I do want the notification every time a check is done.

I am an embedded programmer, with some extra time, and some OS level AOSP experience. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to get started with GrapheneOS, so I can add the missing option?

The build directions are here: https://grapheneos.org/build. It's been a while since the last time I followed them, but at that point they worked for me. If I were embarking on something like this I would buy a second device -- the emulator is imperfect, and it would be a pain to keep wiping one's primary GrapheneOS device.

That is far above my pay grade. If you would be seeking a determination about whether a best-case implementation would be accepted, I would recommend that you file an issue in the appropriate issue tracker and ask whether code for the feature would be accepted (pending review).

studog Adding the option wouldn't be difficult from what I can tell. Here's the repository: https://github.com/GrapheneOS/platform_packages_apps_Updater

I'd also suggest referring to the development guidelines before putting in any work.

I'm not a GrapheneOS developer and I'm not involved in these kinds of decisions, so I don't know if it would be added even if it does meet the project's standards. The easiest way to ask if a feature is desired would be to ask in the development room/channel on Discord, Matrix, or Telegram (the rooms are bridged, so any of them are fine), or maybe a developer will see this thread and share their thoughts here.

Thanks for the tip on the development guidelines.

I'll post to one of those channels (Discord/Matrix/Telegram) if there's no response either here, or on a future newly-opened issue, per someone else's recommendation.
