I'm starting to implement NFC tags into my daily routines (using NFC Tools SE and NFC Tasks SE) and noticed that I can't read them without unlocking my Pixel 8 Pro first. What's odd is that there's a system setting called "Require device unlock for NFC", implying that it is possible to read NFC tags while the phone is locked. Despite having it off, the phone still needs to be unlocked first.
Is anybody else running into a similar issue? I would like to know if the lack of NFC functionality is intentional. If so, the aforementioned unlock requirement setting should be removed as it has no function. If the device is intended to have NFC functionality while locked, then I would greatly appreciate this bug being fixed (or whatever mistake that I'm making to be pointed out) since it would be much more convenient than unlocking every time. I don't see much of a security risk of having NFC always on since the NFC Tasks SE app has a whitelist feature that should prevent any rogue NFC tags from executing tasks on my device.
