I plan to migrate from my Linux laptop to a GrapheneOS tablet as soon as:
- The Google Pixel Tablet 2 launches and only if it is good (variant with larger screen, OLED, ARMv9, MTE, etc);
- Android 15 has a decent desktop mode;
- There is a WSL2-like feature with a terminal app based on pKVM so that I can do my DevOps work inside of a complete and virtualized Alpine Linux shell (by now, I guess that most of my rootless, cloud-based work could even be done via Termux, but a pKVM-based complete shell would be nice).
Then, I find myself thinking about how to use such a tablet as a laptop, considering the single USB C port. Of course, I could plug a dongle/hub into that port and connect whatever I want, but that could impact on how portable it all would be.
On the other hand, I see several generic cases with keyboard and touchpad, but they work via Bluetooth, so I wonder about the security of using something like that. I don't like the idea of my keystrokes going wireless and I am not comfortable with the Bluetooth attack surface (although in GrapheneOS this is better thanks to the all of the exploit mitigations).
It would be so cool if we had a tablet case connected via USB C and having other ports in itself, in addition to its keyboard and touchpad, providing a full laptop experience. Does it exist somewhere?
