If they're unwilling to switch calendar, and he wants to be able to edit and add entries on his phone, I'd say the simplest solution for him is to:
- Log in to his Icloud account (on icloud.com) on a mobile browser in desktop mode (Aplle doesn't make the calendar available in mobile view).
- Once he's in the calendar, go to the browser setting drop-down menu and choose
Add to homescreen
to save the page as a homescreen app.
It works, but it's wonky since it's not adapted to mobile. So the second thing he might want to do is sharing the calenddar and adding it to whatever calendar app he'll use. It will be easier to navigate but is, as far as I know, read only.
