chock-a-block I've tried with videos and music within VLC. The app does have permission to access the network, but the cast button never shows up. I thought this would work without Google Play Services, but no luck so far. Anyone else have it working?
flighty_sloth chock-a-block This might seem like a silly question but are you running a VPN? I noticed with a VPN on with "Block connections without VPN" in Android vpn settings, it would block all my casting, even if the vpn app had LAN mode or split tunneling.
chock-a-block flighty_sloth good question, I have disabled my VPN and ensured both devices are on the same network. If I ever get it working, I plan to enable split tunneling so VLC can connect outside of the VPN. But for now I can't get it working even with the VPN totally disabled
flighty_sloth chock-a-block When you say disabled, do you mean the VPN entry in Settings > Network > VPN was deleted?
User2288 chock-a-block Also ensure "block connections without vpn" is off. My exp with mullvad vpn app is that allow local network options and split tunneling and stuff like that don't work. I have to get everything fully off for them to work so i can use apps like snapdrop and such.
SgtSurehand User2288 I would never surrender "Block connections without VPN" for any feature, be it made of gold.
nunyo SgtSurehand THIS! Couldn't agree more. I setup a separate profile just so I could access my camera system on LAN. Though it's extremely rare nowadays, maybe a year ago ProtonVPN Nord would frequently drop connection. Were it not for "block all connections" untold amounts of traffic would have been revealing my IP. There were many a morning I'd wake up with a notification that I had no internet connection.
User2288 Yes you have to be careful with turning off always on vpn . Use in good judgement and in right place.
