noob question - why do some apps require an additional confirmation to update?

Hi All,

I have GrapheneOS installed on on Pixel 7 and I am very impressed - it is stable, well updated and very pleasant use on a day to day basis - for an Open Source project I am frankly somewhat i awe of what the developers have achieved, many thanks.

Really in an effort to understand more, I wondered if someone could answer a question that has been niggling me - I use the Aurora store to install an manage my apps - I use an anonymous profile. When there are app updates there is an 'Update All' option which is convenient given the speed apps are updated these days. However I have noticed that some apps (and I cannot see a pattern) will prompt for an additional 'install confirmation' whereas others will just update. What is the reason for this?

It asks for confirmation on:

app install
an app update through a different store than the last update

This means that on subsequent updates of the same app through the same store as the last update of the the app, it should not ask for confirmation.

Ah, OK. So is this store related or account related? So if the Aurora store account for update is different from the one used to originally used to install it will ask for confirmation? OR is that if the account was installed by Fdroid and update in Aurora will prompt for the update?

If it is the former then this will happen a lot since the anonymous sessions used in Aurora are requested and refreshed regularly.

urbanmoth some app stores like Aurora allow blacklisting apps for updates (in case you installed them from another source) if I am not mistaken. You won't be able to update them anyway because of a certificate conflict. Have a look at the Settings in your app store app and filter out if possible all apps not installed from this source. You can view the source for each app upon long tapping each in the app drawer: App Info > App details (towards the bottom)

Thanks for the replies, it makes sense and now I understand the 'Blacklist Manager' in the store - I was wondering! (yes I know, I'm a bit slow!)
