rk95 Hello, is it possible to stream music from the phone to headphones via Bluetooth using the LDAC Codec on GrapheneOS, without the need for an external DAC please? Thank you
Hulk rk95 Hello! Many Android phones support LDAC codec. To be able to use LDAC, your headphones also need to support LDAC. Here you can check whether your Pixel phone supports LDAC: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7158570 Hope this helps
rk95 Thank you, yes I know, AFAIK LDAC is supported from Android 8.0 and higher. My headphones already support LDAC. So I just wanted to double check that GrapheneOS won't prevent me from using LDAC in any way, right? :) Thanks
Hulk rk95 short answer: Yes, if your device supports LDAC, you will be able to use it on GrapheneOS. Depending on your headphones, you might need to install an app to tell your headphones to use LDAC. detailed answer: The encoder of LDAC is open-source under Apache License 2.0, so that any device can be coded to transmit LDAC streams without patent or licensing issues. The decoder design remains proprietary. LDAC encoder is part of AOSP (called libldac): https://android.googlesource.com/platform/external/libldac/+/refs/heads/android13-release
Crystal Hulk There shouldn't be any need for a 3rd party app to be able to use LDAC on GrapheneOS. If you need such app, something is very wrong with said device[perhaprs they didn't actually paid Sony for license?]. Are there legitimate cases, where this is really needed? If your headphones truely support LDAC, you should see something like this on your GrapheneOS device. https://i.imgur.com/Kck9KGS.png
